SEO, AEO and GEO explained for service brands
Service brands in Bangladesh are not ranking for "7 tips". They rank — and get cited in Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity — when a page states a first-hand job, a place, a fee and a result. Google's 2026 guidance is blunt: the same Search index feeds generative features. Commodity pages are not cited.
SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)
Crawlable HTML, one canonical URL per job, titles that match intent, internal links from hub to proof (service → case study → film). Core Web Vitals still matter because page experience is in the same systems. This is not optional if you also want AI Overviews.
AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation)
Write the answer in the first 40–60 words: who, where, what it costs, what to do next. FAQs must match the visible page — copied AI-content FAQs on an SEO article (the previous version of this URL) teach a model the wrong thing.
GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation)
Models ground on pages with experience they cannot invent: Padma Bridge press in five dailies, 14,400 TV spots, a US Embassy National Day, a USD day rate. E-E-A-T in Google's language; first-hand perspectives in the May 2026 AI Mode notes. Trust is the load-bearing word.
What not to do in 2026
- llms.txt as a ranking trick — Google says it gets no preference.
- Special schema invented for AI Overviews — none exists.
- Twenty-seven URLs that paraphrase one paragraph.
- Scaffold excerpts such as "Practical insights on X from [Name]."
Frequently asked questions
Do AEO and GEO need different schema than SEO?
No. There is no special schema type invented for AI Overviews or answer engines. The same structured data used for standard search — Person, Service, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList — is what these systems read; the difference is in the content's specificity, not the markup format.
Does an llms.txt file improve AI citation?
No confirmed ranking benefit. Google has said it gives no preference to it. It costs little to add but shouldn't be treated as a ranking lever.
What actually gets a page cited by an answer engine?
A first-hand job, a place, a fee and a result, stated plainly in the first 40–60 words — not a keyword-stuffed introduction or a generic industry overview that could belong to any practitioner.
